how are monoclonal antibodies produced when you don't have the antigen?

Question by Robbie: how are monoclonal antibodies produced when you don't have the antigen?
if you know the structure of the antibody you need (the amino acide sequence) you could then convert that into its complementary DNA sequence and produce a recombinant DNA molecule that codes for your antibody and then simply inserted into a cell line! couldn't you? is that how you would make antibodies without actually requiring the antigen?
